East Africa Cycle Safari

Pedalling for Education: Support the 750km African Cycle Safari

Ten cyclists of the St Margarets Cycle Club are preparing to take on an extraordinary challenge — riding 750 kilometres from Kampala in Uganda to Nairobi in Kenya — all to help children reach school.

Over 14 days, the team will cycle across East Africa’s vibrant towns, rural villages, and breathtaking landscapes to raise funds for Project Le Monde’s “Bike for Schools” initiative, which provides bicycles to children who otherwise face long and difficult journeys to school.

For many students in rural Uganda and Kenya, education begins with a long walk. Some children travel several miles each way, often before sunrise and after sunset, simply to attend class. The journey can be exhausting, dangerous, and sometimes impossible during rainy seasons.

But something as simple as a bicycle can transform a child’s life.

A bicycle dramatically shortens travel time, making school attendance easier and safer. It allows children to arrive at school on time, alert, and ready to learn, while also giving them more time at home with their families.

This is why the riders are taking on the African Cycle Safari — to help place bicycles into the hands of students who need them most.

During the ride, the cyclists will visit Radnor House School in Namakoko, a school supported by Project Le Monde, where they will see first-hand how access to education can change lives. The team will deliver bicycles and meet the children whose daily journeys will be transformed by the generosity of supporters.

The route will take them from Kampala through Jinja and along the shores of Lake Victoria before crossing into Kenya. They will continue through the dramatic Rift Valley and pass through Amboseli National Park, before completing their remarkable journey in Nairobi.

But they cannot do it alone.

Every kilometre the riders pedal is powered by the generosity of people who believe that every child deserves access to education.

You can help.

Your donation will directly support the purchase and delivery of bicycles for school children who currently walk miles each day just to attend class.
