Joy Nursery & Primary School in Kyengera, Uganda, was Project Le Monde’s first school project. Since 2011, we’ve helped local women turn their vision into a thriving community school, now welcoming 400 children.
We funded seven classrooms, completed in phases by 2018, alongside staff facilities, toilets and rainwater collection systems. The school also provides boarding accommodation for boys and girls.
Recently, local builders have installed a concrete veranda outside the classrooms, thanks to funds donated by Smile Muslims in West London. Metal swings and roundabouts take pride of place in the playground, the result of funds raised through a charity disco by St Mary’s School in Twickenham. And all the children proudly wear matching uniform following a donation of surplus uniform by St Mary’s School in Oxted. Our next goal is to secure the school grounds with perimeter fencing.
